In a major incident early Saturday morning, an explosion occurred at Shahid Rajaee Port, Iran’s largest commercial port located near Bandar Abbas. According to initial reports, a fuel storage tank inside the port’s premises caught fire and exploded, causing extensive damage to surrounding facilities.
Emergency response teams were immediately deployed to the scene. Authorities have confirmed that more than 200 individuals have been injured so far, with many receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. The severity of injuries varies, and officials warn that the casualty numbers could rise as rescue operations continue.
Due to the extent of the damage, Shahid Rajaee Port has been temporarily taken out of operation. Port officials stated that all cargo handling activities are suspended until further notice, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the explosion.
The port plays a critical role in Iran’s import and export economy, handling nearly half of the country's maritime trade. Experts warn that the incident could lead to significant delays in logistics and supply chains, both domestically and internationally.
